the start of another year
the '10/'11 school year started last thursday, and is off and running already! i love being back to work, and feeling like i have a purpose rather than wasting time--even if i needed the summer break! i'm also very happy to be having a pay check again, as the summer meant minimum payments on my student loans and that doesn't get them paid off as quickly as possible. my schedule for the semester involves taking notes in chemistry I, health, transitional algebra/geometry, and biology I...i'm pretty excited about it since i'm a nerd like that & love medical & science stuff, but i realized on the second day of school that being out of the resource room a lot means not getting to know our kids as well--especially the new ones. i know that'll make it harder to possibly come in at 2nd semester and expect the kids to trust me to help them with things.
on a more positive note, today was my first practice assistant coaching the club swim team! it was fun, even if a bit more chaotic than ideal. the kids were adorable & if i'm not careful, will no doubt take complete advantage of me to slack off! the 1 1/2 hours made me appreciate all of my previous swim coaches (even the ones i didn't like) and realize that i might actually be ready to get back in the pool on a more consistent basis. maybe it was the heat, but i was ready to jump in the pool right alongside the kids! perhaps the 5 am lap swim will be in my agenda tomorrow...or the 6 pm laps if i help coach again...
all in all, things are looking pretty great work-wise! coaching will add a little extra cash to my wallet, as well as housesitting (i might be in line for a 3-month gig in an apparently gorgeous house--score!). now if only the more personal side of life would start to pick up. but as i told my godfather this weekend, i have no desire to hang out at the bars waiting for some sub-par "townie" that'll just end up causing more problems than good. i'm starting to realize and appreciate the difference between "boys" and "men," regardless of their age!
