back to reality

yup, that's right. summer is over. work has started. a few days earlier than i was originally planning, but that's what happens when you're motivated to pad the resume for future employment endeavors.

what that means is, i was originally slated to return to work on monday the 29th. which sucks, but fine i guess since the weather won't cooperate and i need to pay bills (specifically those darn student loans), i might as well start scraping up the green stuff again. however, and this always happens, one of my bosses called me two days ago asking if i wanted to cover her and her husband's spots as mentor teachers for the freshman orientation that was today. she said some money would be involved to make up for one less day of summer vacation, but more so it would look good to the administration when i try for a job later. honestly, i would've done it regardless! i've sat in on the meetings the groups have throughout the fall, and getting to be a part of the initial day sounded like fun. plus it'd be a throwback to my days as an ambassador at pacific. so sure, why not.

of course nobody emailed me any pertinent information, so i showed up to the early morning information meeting a half hour late & then didn't get a schedule for the day...luckily i was really only there for supervision purposes. it ended up being fun, but now that the day is over, i forget how tiring students can be! and they were only there for about 4.5 hours, not the 7 they're regularly in school for! should make the rest of this year interesting i guess... it ended up being a lot of fun; i knew some of the frosh from coaching but the majority i don't know at all. so today's participation will help get to know more names & faces, making the rest of the year a little more fun to be involved in. and i got to see a lot of the really awesome people i work with a few days early, which is totally ok. i'd forgotten how wonderful they are, being gone for 3 months. have i mentioned that i LOVE my job??

i also start my other job on tuesday...back to the pool deck. i'm a little excited for it, since we now have a new coach that has all the responsibility, instead of me getting to cover practices 5 days/wk. i'll now only have a small group of 5-7 yr olds who are still developing their swimming skills. we have a 3rd coach coming on board to take another group of younger kids, and coach chad has relocated from ohio to take charge. so far, so good from what i've heard! i haven't been on deck with him yet, but we've gone out hiking a couple times & took him to a guitar cd release party tonight - haven't scared him away yet, so fingers crossed he sticks around awhile! he survived the first (early) big fall storm we had; about 2 wks of solid sideways rain & winds. that's a good sign in itself, as it takes a special, strong person to weather the storms up here, no pun intended. and he's really nice. so he really needs to stick around. like really. playing tour guide gets me out of the house more often, which is needed. and did i mention he's really nice?? sigh...

i have about 48 hours until work starts full-time again, and lots of errands to do before then: deposit student loan money, bake/cook for work & picnic, and LOTS of homework for my SpEd class. *yay* fingers crossed i keep my little bit of sanity i have left during this crazy busy year...
