i took chewie out to south point higgins beach sunday morning since the weather was FINALLY rain-free. on the way out, we passed a house that i've housesat before (not to mention the son who i've been friends with in the past). much to my surprise, it had a "for sale" sign out in front. what!?!? ok, never mind the treasure trove of possibilities that sign may mean, but the important part is that house is one of the reasons i want to live out on south point higgins road. it's only a 5 minute walk to the beach, is surrounded by trees and forest, and is only a 15-20 minute drive into town. anything farther out of town is too far. and have you seen how beautiful it is out there on the beach?!
if i lived out there, i'd be out at the beach every day. and every low tide. so it got me thinking - the house isn't my absolute favorite place (cute but a little barn-y) but it's location is ideal. not that i could ever afford it at this point in life, but why not daydream a bit? i thought about where i'd put a tv, how i'd set up the kitchen...new paint, of course, & wood flooring to replace the older carpet. the well-worn kitchen table from cornelius/hillsboro would go in the breakfast nook, and i'd get rid of the murphy beds in the two bedrooms upstairs. The master bath could use a little updating and rearranging, but the yard is decent-sized and edged by forest/muskeg. i'd finally have room to get a dog or two of my own - atleast one bigger one so that i could take it hiking & scare off the bears. a kayak would have to be in the works since i could launch it straight from the beach.
gas mileage would be better since i'd be running my car for more than 5 minutes, but buying ice cream would become a bit meltier. unfortunately, no coffee shops close by but a gas station & mini-mart are near for (expensive) emergencies. my subie would be fine on the roads in the winter, and south point is a reasonably well-traffcked road so it gets maintained. it's a quiet neighborhood with people walking their dogs on the side of the road in the mornings and evenings. several nice families are out there, and i'm sure many more.
sigh...if only...
