Highlights of 2013:
- Student teaching & last grad school classes completed
- Graduated from GCU with Master's of Education in Special Education (K-12) & institutional recommendation for teaching certificate
- Took & passed Praxis II in general science
- Applied for & was granted an AK initial teaching certificate for Special Education w/ endorsement in general science
- Applied & was hired for Special Education Resource teaching job in the classroom I've worked in as a para for the past 4 years
- Traveled to Oahu & Kauai with Aloha Jill, then Forest Grove/Portland & Auburn/Seattle/Tacoma areas to visit nunnery girls, drink Dutch Bros, & eat Voodoo doughnuts
- Worked ESY as a teacher of kindergartners, 1st graders & a 5th grader (planning & implementing academic reinforcement & remedial instruction instead of job coaching middle/high school students)
- Trained for & participated in Pennock Island open water swim challenge as part of 4-member team
- Started school year as a teacher instead of para!
- Traveled to Sitka to coach 10 kids at the October Splash swim meet
- Quit coaching after 3.5 years
- Hit 209.38 miles in the pool & 79.45 miles of hiking/walking/running
Goals for 2014:
- Swim entire Pennock Challenge solo (8.3 miles) in August
- Buy kayak to paddle SE AK waters whenever I want
- Participate in 13.1 mile Totem to Totem run/walk (ideally, more running than walking! need to start training/running…)
- Buy a house, if a good one becomes available & bank ok's a loan
- 250+ miles in the pool
- Survive 1st year of teaching, then get contract offer for 2nd year
- Coach swimming again, if time/energy/relationship(s) w/ coworker(s)/etc. allows for it
- Eat more produce & less high-cholesterol foods (meatless Mondays maybe?)
