going the distance

i just finished watching this movie, "going the distance," with drew barrymore & justin long.  i was ready to pass it off as another cheesy romcom flick, which was ok because those are my some of my favorite movies.  i was very surprised to find it to be poignant and heartbreaking as well as funny.

mostly, i think it hit home for me because of my own experience(s) with long distance relationships--the frustration from not being able to be near the person you want to be with is awful and typically impossible to resolve.  my "trysts" didn't end so well, so i'm not hopeful or optimistic in regards to these types of relationships working out; it takes an extreme amount of work and trust and loyalty and love.  not to give away the ending of the movie, but it almost ended realistically, which almost my proved my theory that long distance doesn't work, even in the movies.  of course, this is hollywood we're talking about here--movie magic was worked, and to make more money, the characters lived happily ever after (or so the ending implied).

perhaps long distance is possible; i have no personal proof to support this ideal.  it's definitely something i'd think twice about before pursuing.  but never say never, right?
