i don't know what it is, but the past few weeks now i've been on a vintage movie kick. and no, i don't mean "vintage" like 10-20 yrs ago, i mean like movies my grandma would have watched when she was young. what i've come to realize is: 1) they just don't make movies like they used to, 2) women's singing voices are curiously different, 3) rodgers & hammerstein kick ass, and 4) audrey hepburn & judy garland are amazing. my list thus far includes:
- my fair lady (1964) -- audrey hepburn, rex harrison
- south pacific (1958) -- mitzi gaynor, rossano brazzi
- casablanca (1942) -- humphrey bogart, ingrid bergman
- meet me in st. louis (1944) -- judy garland, margaret o'brien
- the king & i (1956) -- yul brynner, deborah kerr
- roman holiday (1953) -- audrey hepburn, gregory peck
- breakfast at tiffany's (1961) -- audrey hepburn, george peppard
and in the "coming up next" que:
- heidi (1937) -- shirley temple, jean hersholt
- gone with the wind (1939) -- clark gable, vivien leigh
- doctor doolittle (1967) -- rex harrison, samantha eggar
- chitty chitty bang bang (1968) -- dick van dyke, sally ann howes
ohhhh to have been born in a different era...
