when i was little, i always wanted to be older because of the increased responsibilities and opportunities available, as well the decreased drama i so despised in high school. now that i'm older, and supposedly wiser, i've come to realize something: adulthood doesn't mean less drama. adulthood often means MORE drama.
case in point, some of the swim moms from the team. the kids are fine, the dads don't cause any problems, but the stay-at-home moms who apparently have nothing better to do with their lives stir things up waaaaaay more than necessary. our coach can't even leave town for 5 days and have a previous assistant coach fill-in without an uproar. good lord people, grow up!!
however, i started to understand some of the drama after the past two days of coaching - the attitudes & dynamics are different. due to previous negative experiences, fill-in wasn't very friendly to some of the swimmers (or was, but fake & overly friendly), despite the progress they've made in the past 4 months. nightmares about being back were discussed. no smiles, no happy chit-chat, just ragging on coach & kids. grrrrrrreat....way to make my last few days of xmas break go REALLY swell.
besides the parent drama, i also realized why i wasn't good friends with fill-in - she's nice overall, but the bitchy side is prevalent if conversation is more than casual & superficial. which may be fine with some people, but i've had enough bitchy to last me quite awhile, thanks to a past friend. and i don't like being around negativity all the time, it wears me out & ruins whatever good mood i may be in. so, although we have a common connection due to pulling the swim team through 6 months of no full-time head coach, i'm not going to be extremely upset when xmas break is over and people get back into their normal routines: coach comes back to ketch, fill-in heads back to school, i get to laugh at practice again (even though i may be coaching more due to 2nd ass't coach leaving).
as much as i love sleeping 12 hrs/night and not having any obligations during the day besides 2 hrs of practice, i'm almost ready to get back to work & the reality of routine. if nothing else, i'll be more productive & others will be busier with their routines so they have less time to cause problems...
